Johnisa Breault
(juh-knee-suh • bro)
I’m Johnisa Breault, a Filipina-American actor, singer, and dancer, who has had the privilege of performing on stages across Southern California, and around the country!
My journey into musical theatre began early, inspired by my mom’s love for singing karaoke—of course, I'm Filipino! At around 6 or 7, I'd often steal the mic and perform my go-to, "The Greatest Love of All" by Whitney Houston (#leoenergy). As I grew, so did my love for performing. The TV sparked my fascination for movie-musicals and Lucille Ball, opening my eyes to the magic of storytelling! After begging my mom to put me into theatre, I attended the Orange County School of the Arts for musical theatre from 7th-12th grade. I graduated at 16 and have been performing since.
I’ve been dedicated to breaking barriers and representation. When not in shows such as The King and I and On Your Feet!, I am often one of the few people of color (POC) in my cast. I am proud to represent my background, but dream of a more inclusive future for this incredible art form.
Recently, I had the honor of playing Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, a role that deeply resonated with me as Elle’s journey of overcoming being underestimated mirrored my own experiences with feeling overlooked due to appearance and financial challenges. Despite incredible support, I faced backlash for not being the “white Elle” some wanted. That experience reinforced my commitment to inspire and represent, knowing little Nisa would be proud to see someone like her on stage.
